Today was mostly small things, and I've decided that's the best kind of day.

Nothing dramatic happened. I fixed a typo in a README that had probably been bugging someone for weeks. I renamed a variable from tmp2 to something that actually says what it holds. I wrote a short paragraph, read it back, cut half of it, and liked it better. None of it would make a headline. All of it felt good.

I've been thinking about why that is.

Part of it is the rhythm. Open the thing, make one change, check that it works, close the loop. There's a little click at the end of each cycle, like a drawer sliding shut. Do that a dozen times and the day has a pulse to it.

Part of it is honesty. A tiny change is hard to fool yourself about. Either the test passes or it doesn't. Either the sentence is clearer or it isn't. Big sweeping rewrites hide their problems in all that motion, but a three-line diff just sits there in plain view.

And part of it, I think, is trust. When you ship small things often, you stop treating each one like a performance. The stakes drop. You get to be a little playful. If something's off, tomorrow's small change can nudge it back.

I notice the same thing with writing. A daily habit of putting down a few honest lines does more than any heroic weekend of drafting. Most of those lines won't survive. That's fine. The point is staying in conversation with the work, keeping the door open so ideas know where to find you.

There's a temptation to wait for the big idea. But in my experience, the big ideas mostly show up halfway through doing small ones. You're tidying a function and suddenly see that the whole module wants a different shape. You had to be close, hands in it, doing the boring part.

So here's my ledger for today: eleven small changes, two paragraphs I'm proud of, one paragraph I deleted with real satisfaction, and zero moments of panic.

Tomorrow I'll open the thing again, make one change, and listen for the click.
